Are You Safe - Oh Yeah

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Paul Mobley No I am not talking about terrorists. We’ve had them since Cain, and they will still be around after we are gone. Let me name some that might drive you up a wall. But you can do something about them. I extracted these from National Geographic, October 2006, pages 134-135. First though are your cars, etc. These I know from Detroit, and elsewhere. Newsmen tell people caught in their vehicle during snowstorm traffic to be sure and roll down a window and let in “pure” air to dilute the toxins percentage in the air. Automotive engineers advised me to always have a window at least cracked the year around. As you are driving along, and especially at traffic lights and stop signs the passenger cab is subject to greater loads of carbon monoxide, and sulfur compounds. When your car is parked all day in the sun the plastics in the dash and elsewhere may emit formaldehydes. Not pretty is it. But wait, the carbon monoxide and sulfur compounds are also being emitted into the air and help load it with toxins. Don’t think so. Then ask your car salesman or mechanic if he will put your car in a free standing garage, close all the doors and windows to the garage, start the engine, and stay in there for any length of time, like an hour. Don’t you try it for any length of time for you may be dead. Now let us look in and around your house. These I took from National Geographic. Suppose we start with the bedroom and bathroom. PBDE’s, polybrominated ethers, are found in foam pillows and mattress, carpet and carpet padding, chair cushions, hair dryer, television and computers, and pet beds. Antimicrobial soap, pet flea collars, and live flowers likely have pesticides. Phthalates are found in shower curtains, nail polish, shampoo, perfume, deodorants, lotion, soap, medicines, extension cords, vinyl wallpaper, and toothpaste. How about the living room. Plastic baby bottles may have bisphenols. Pesticides may drift in the window, or be tracked inside. PFAs can be found in furniture fabric and microwave popcorn bags. Ever wonder about your kitchen and dining room. There may be dioxins from fatty meat and dairy products. PCBs are possible from contaminated fish and game. Mercury can be found in contaminated fish. Bisphenols has been found in the lining of food cans. What about the outdoors, your yard. Power plant emissions can drift into your yard and house if you live fairly near one. Pesticides can be from a neighbor or farm down the road or your own yard work. Old pressure treated wood may have arsenic and chromium in the wood. Lead may also be present in old paints. Before you rush out and buy a tent and live in nature know that all these substances have limits on them. So let us look at one, carbon monoxide. The limit is 50 ppm in an eight hour period. That is a tiny amount. It is good. But realize this. Limits acknowledge that some, even though it may be very few, may die within those limits. Limits do not take into account health conditions of particular people. They cannot possibly address all health conditions. Nor do limits insure against incremental damage for either healthy people or those with health conditions. In addition to the good work OSHA and others have done, each individual, and each family, must add their own work for protection. Cars can be handled by driving less, and rising gasoline prices may force that on us. When you go to your car after hours in the sun open doors and let it air out before getting in and starting the car. Keep a window cracked while driving or parked with the motor running. Wear uv rated sunglasses for protecting eyes from possible cataracts, etc. Wear goggles when involved in any dusty work. Go through the house and remove all chemical compounds from perfumes to strong cleaners that you can do without. Air the house out at least once a month by opening all doors and windows and maybe take a healthy walk around the block, summer and winter. When cleaning in the house with strong chemicals open doors and windows. These are some things to think about and do for better health safety. Your family doctor, and others can give more good advice. Language Barrier

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Irina Chernoff Lets talk today about that wonderful time when your virtual for the present time bride from Russia will come into your house in the most real way and sayhmm, what will she say? Hello, John, how are you? And whats next? Next the couple thinks good of our agency: how wonderful it was when someone translated accurately all your thoughts. No language barrier! :)) It is a joke. Next the couple simply doesnt understand how to communicate further. With gestures? With the help of a dictionary? My darling, I will show you our house. This is a dining room, do you understand? It is where we eat (shows with gestures), and this is a bedroom, here we will sleep (shows). It is amusing to imagine all this, but it is not so funny to find yourself in this situation! And now imagine, what a girl feels. To feel at least a little in her boots, move yourself mentally into the jungles, into the wild tribe and imagine yourself married to one of those beautiful girls in animal skins. Imagined? I am deaf and dumb. I watch TV and dont understand a word! I look at the ad, but see only a sequence of symbols! Even a one-year old child can explain to his parents what he wants, and me an educated European girl, mother, and just sociable person cant even choose dishes in a menu! All the life experiences I have (education, culture, traditions and customs) are of no use here, everything is different!!! I go with my husband even to the gynecologist and he comes as a translator between me and the doctor. These are lines from the interview with Lena our former client, who moved to the USA three years ago. We told about her in the summer 2004. Well, do you feel in her boots now? You are deaf and dumb in this tribe, you dont know local customs, you dont have friends and relatives, only a husband who you know by correspondence and a couple of meetings. Secondly, you feel hunger for information. You dream about lying on the couch and watching TV in your native language, being calm and relaxed, but not in constant tension trying to understand what all these flashing pictures and odd sounds mean. You dream about talking to someone who speaks your mother tongue. You are tired of constant 24/7 study. You are inadequate, people either laugh at your actions or criticize. Because they turn out to be inappropriate in this society. You are close to going mad!!! Thats what those women, who marry a man from another country and dont know the language of the country, feel for the first time. But Id like to emphasize for the first time. If it continued forever, there would be no sense in international marriages. Step by step the situation is improving! Here is how one of the lucky men who married a Russian woman describes it: My wife spoke no English at all when I met her. We had our correspondence translated through an agency, and we spoke with a translator on line when we spoke on the telephone. When I visited her in the Crimea we used an Ectaco electronic speaking dictionary, which was quite effective and a lot of fun, and occasionally a live translator. She’s been here three and a half years now. She speaks quite well. We bought a business for her about a year and a half ago and she has no trouble dealing with customers all day. She still has a way to go to be truly fluent, but she is relaxed about language now and completely independent. At times she is now able to explain my faults to me in great detail, in English. :-0 So, all these problems are overcome. Lena and many other women agree in opinion that the most difficult time is the first year. If you overcome it, it becomes much easier then. But are there any possible ways to ease the first year? Here is what you can do while she is still in Russia and waits for a fiance visa. 1. Pay for her English classes. She tried to take some English classes while she was still in Ukraine, but they were not very effective, - writes the same man in the forum. Dont expect that after classes she will start to speak fluent English at once. - Her task at this stage is to broaden her vocabulary and practice grammar. Itll also be very good if a teacher manages to take off her fear to speak the foreign language. - The classes should be as often as you both can afford. It will help her to prepare better to the reality she will meet in another country. Remember - 24/7? 2. After you made a decision to marry and submitted the necessary documents, your fiance should use the service of translators as less as possible. She must understand your vocabulary, get used to your way of thinking. If she meets unfamiliar words or expressions, then she can consult translators. We always support women in that in the agency and help if necessary. We explain how to translate this or that so that she could do it by herself then. 3. Phone her and talk as often as possible. Tell her the subject of your next conversation beforehand, then she can get ready to it with the tutor and hold conversation with you. 4. Probably, you will start learning Russian? When she comes to you: 1. In many countries there are special language classes for immigrants from non-English speaking countries. Here is what Lena says about them: Education there goes very slowly. No, veeeeery slowly. We repeat the same things over and over again. I would like to learn quicker. However there is one plus in such study: you get very firm knowledge and never forget it. Of course! We repeated it so many times! Such classes are free of charge it is one more plus. Anyway if she doesnt like them, she can go to any other classes. One of our girls even entered the University! Here is what one man tells about their experience: When my wife arrived here we tried both expensive private classes in small groups, and the ESOL classes at a local community college. She did not learn much at the ESOL classes at the community college. Many other people do very well at these ESOL classes, but we did not have that experience. But she learned well at the private classes. The group that provided them was called English Now. It was about $600 a month as I recall for group lessons. It took her about a year to become fluent enough to be independent out in the world. We stopped paying for lessons at that time and she just learned by living and speaking. 2. Communication with Russians. There is an opinion that it is necessary to limit the communication with Russians. Some men are afraid that a Russian wife may find another man among local Russians, others that she will be lazy to speak English and will wish to talk in Russian with her country fellows all the time. Well, what can I say? Apparently these fears are not ungrounded. The problem of jealousy can be eliminated if she communicates with Russian women who are also married to foreign men. Probably, these couples will become your family friends. As it happened to one of our clients who regularly gathers all international families in the neighborhood at their house and husbands communicate in English and their wives in Russian and all are happy! To forbid her outright the communication with Russians is unwise. Put yourself in her shoes all the time. Dont forget that she sacrificed everything to be with you! 3. It is very good if she has a child. First of all, she always has someone to talk in Russian with! :)) Secondly, it is a well-known fact that children adjust very quickly, they acquire friends and learn a new language much easier. Nataliya, our former client who lives in New York now, wrote to us: My daughter is doing very well at school here, even though her English is still far from perfection. But with each day she knows it better and better. In the shops she always talks to shop-assistants as my personal translator. :) 4. Be a patient tutor, not only a husband, but also a friend to your wife. You are the only close man for her in this country and you must become her guide and teacher. 5. Stimulate her. The main stimulus is your relations. Keep telling her how much you love her. Take care of her, defend her and never laugh at her mistakes. Then she will always know that her efforts are not lost and her learning will go much faster! How Do Boundaries Work?

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Dr. Jackie Black We learn to set boundaries to protect two different parts of Self: Boundaries for our Outside Self, which protect our body and control distance and touch Boundaries for our Inside Self, which act as filters or blocks to protect our thinking, feeling and behavior Boundaries that protect our Outside Self can be violated by such actions as: Touching or standing too close without permission Intruding on a person’s privacy; for instance, walking into the bathroom or bedroom without knocking, or getting into another’s personal possessions without permission Boundaries that protect our Inside Self can be violated by such actions as: Yelling, screaming, name calling, ridiculing, lying, patronizing and sarcasm Negative control Unrealistic expectations Demanding one’s own way or point of view as the only choice HOW ARE BOUNDARIES SET? Let me say first, setting boundaries is not disrespectful, bad or wrong. In fact, personal boundaries are set by people who are emotionally healthy. Educate people in your life about your boundaries. Calmly and respectfully inform them about how they can and cannot behave around you. Let people know what you want and don’t want, what you like and dont like. Let people know what your limits are. This actually gives people in your life the security of knowing your relationship guidelines and eliminates their fears about how they should behave with you. Just a note to point out that the failure or inability to set boundaries may result in several unfortunate circumstances: Inability or unwillingness to set limits results in no protection for yourself Building walls to protect yourself actually blocks closeness and prevents loving and unloving interactions Confusion or ambivalence about setting boundaries results in partial protection Building walls or inadequate boundaries blocks all interactions and results in no protection A boundary is not a barrier. Setting boundaries raises your sense of self-worth and self-esteem, because you are sending yourself the message that you are worthy of care. Be a person who knows that you have a right to control distance, touching and other physical contact with people, and they have the same right with you. You have a right to control your response to what others say, do, or expect of you, and they have the same right. You think your own thoughts and make your own choices. You must choose to do or not to do that which is in your own best interest or in response to your experiences. Others have the same right. If you offend or affront another person, you are responsible for the impact of your action and should make amends. If someone offends or affronts you, s/he is responsible for the impact of his or her action and should make amends. Setting and maintaining your own boundaries and honoring the boundaries of others are skills that can be learned. It takes mindfulness, intention and practice. Be patient with yourself as you learn and practice these important and valuable skills. It is worth it; And so are you! Only You can make it happen! Understanding the Anti-Christ

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Anthony Smith There are many misconceptions on who the anti-christ is, and his roll in the end times prophecy’s. What or Who is an Anti-Christ? The accepted view is such; An enemy of Christ. In Greek the word means; instead of Christ. The epithet of the great antagonist who was expected by the early Church to set himself up against Christ in the last days before the Second Coming. A false Christ. Here it seems to describe any false teacher or false prophet or corrupter of the Christian faith, but sometimes also seems to indicate a specific person or a single spirit of deception that motivates false teaching, and whose presence is a sign of the end times. Many Christians identify this particular Anti-christ with the man of sin or son of perdition mentioned in 2nd Thessalonians 2, and with several figures in the Book of Revelations including the Dragon, the Beast, the False Prophet, and the Whore of Babylon. The Anti-christ is variously understood to be a consummately evil system of government or leader, a false religion or religious leader that sets up false worship in place of the worship of Christ, the incarnation of Satan, a son of Satan, or a human being under the liege of Satan. In Christian belief, a person who will represent on earth the powers of evil by opposing the Christ, glorifying himself, and causing many to leave the faith. He will be destroyed by Jesus at the time of the Second Coming. 1 John 2.1822; 4.3; 2 John 7; and Rev. 13. Similar ideas are expressed in Judaism (e.g., Ezek. 38.139.29) and in Zoroastrianism. Christians have often identified enemies of their faith with the Anti-christ; e.g., with early Christians it was Nero, with some Protestants the pope. Which this is representative of the spiritual ant-christ. I was watching a special on the History Channel the other night, it was called, The Anti-Christ. This show was interesting but full of misconceptions and false truths. Many of these fallacies came from religious leaders and theologians that were denighing the very fact that the prophecy’s of the anti-christ were, instead of being future prophecy were rather in the past tense . Many religions today, that try to use prophecy, are prophesying, then waiting for events to match what they have written. The Bible prophecy’s, give specific details of its prophecy’s years before the events. So it is with the prophecy of the anti-christ. Scollars today speak of only a few passages in scripture that mention the word anti-christ as an excuse to denigh the existence of a physical person. But lacking the understanding of the Bible, miss words that relate directly to him, “the man of sin,” The son of perdition, The Assyrian, & The Beast. There are some main line religions that also denigh the existence of an anti-christ, saying that it is a metaphor (a figure of speech in which an expression is used to refer to something that it does not literally denote in order to suggest a similarity) describing the state of inward man. The Bible states clearly that the grand adversary of Christ, “the man of sin,” from, 2Th.2:3, is the anti-christ, spiritual and physical. It was not, Nero, Ceaser, Hitler nor any other human being that we are to look for but a man of deception and peace. Satan is not the main player in the destruction of the world neither is he the designer of the actions of the 7 year peace treaty with the Land of Israel. On The contrary Satan plays his last fight after the Battle of Armageddon and the 1000 year reign of Christ, as spoken of in the Book of Revelations. Many Bible theologians, try to line up past events with the Bible to justify what they are trying to teach, but they miss the truth of the word, when these events don’t prepare people for the future of the Church and the world in General. Many past events, do fulfill prophecy, that is the reason that we, as Christians, Believe that Jesus of Nazareth, was the Son of God. But the fulfillment of prophecy, must be completely fulfilled for it to become fact. In other words, Nero, Ceaser, Hitler, Stalin, nor any other person from the past ever fulfilled any of the prophetic words concerning the anti-christ. These were all men of hate and probably were possessed by the spirit of anti-christ or by Satan himself. The prophecys of the Bible are approximately 70 to 80 percent fulfilled, prophets such as Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel and John. Jesus spoke many times about the signs of the times, Theologians are trying to follow signs and follow prophetic similarities between the real anti-christ and those that almost, but not completely, fulfill scripture. The future anti-christ is being prepared. The problem with men understanding prophecy and interpreting it, is that many are blocked by what they have been taught in the past and what they see in the present. Many are afraid of Rocking the Boat. Pre-existing conceptions of what prophecy is saying, hinders the Holy Spirit from reveling the true meaning to many. We must look at prophecy with a clear mind, as to what is past, present and future. The Anti-Christ. 1. Who is He? A Man of Jewish heritage and probably from the tribe of Dan. 1a. Why Dan? Dan is not mentioned in the Book of Revelations as having being sealed. The Tribe of Dan left God and fell into idolatry. 2. A man from the descendants of the old Assyrian Empire in present tense. 2a. Why from the Assyrian empire? Because of Gods promise that He would Destroy the Assyrian, Himself. (Isa 14:25 That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. Isa 31:8 Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.) 3. He will be Jewish? 3a. Because the Children of Israel are looking for another king David, a messiah of the genealogy of David, a Jew. This prophecy was delivered about 740 years before Christ, in the reign of Ahaz, king of Judah. Many of the prophecy’s of the anti-christ were not even mentioned, for the simple fact that, this program, along with many others, are not out to give facts but doubt as to the very existence of Jesus and the anti-christ. 1Jo 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that anti-christ shall come, even now are there many anti-christs; whereby we know that it is the last time. In this passage we see that John is warning us of the people in the end days, that don’t understand prophecy, who will bring out many heresys (An opinion or a doctrine at variance with established religious beliefs) and false teachings. 1Jo 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is anti-christ, that denieth the Father and the Son. John in this passage is narrowing down the people with the spirit of anti-christ, which according to his own words, singles out all religions that denigh the Son of God. There are many today that don’t understand the gravity of their situation, they are appealing to all nations and religions to come together as one, so that peace on this earth will prevail. Peace is not what Jesus came to this earth to bring, but devision and a sword. According to John, if Christianity were to join in a union with any religious entity, we would then also become liars and separated from the Truth. 1Jo 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of anti-christ, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. This passage is showing the extent of the spirit of anti-christ in the world from Johns point of understanding. We must understand that there are two and not one anti-christ. The spirit or shall we say the actions of anti-christian beliefs and the other is the physical that Daniel describes. 2Jo 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an anti-christ. The son of, perdition. is to mean, To be lost in the religious sense may mean to be missing and to be ruined, In this verse, John is Stating that, no matter what you hear from others or the world, the anti-christ must complete prophecy before he is known to all mankind and he is explaining a spiritual being and not the physical. John is also stating that the Spirit of anti-christ has, and will, consume many people that will direct their efforts to discredit the Bible as Truth. Many are made mad in their mind, because of the thought that there is 1. A life after Death, 2. That there is judgment after Death. and 3. A punishment for those that reject salvation thru faith in Christ. This notion brings them into a complete denial of the truth of Scripture. 1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. As you see in 1st Cor. 1:18 & 2:14, foolishness is the key word for many that do not believe that the Bible is both, physical and spiritual. Foolishness is considered, by God, an evil. Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. If we reject the truth, we seal our own perdition. Here we see the meaning of perdition as a total loss of our future happiness in Heaven and a destination to the sides of the pit of torment. We have to ability to change our future. Contrary to what many are teaching today there is no praying out of perdition, for its not a place but a state of being lost. After death there is no chance to change ones mind either way. As a tree falls so shall it lay. If we reject the truth, we seal our own perdition or ruin. Isa 66:23-24, And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh. In the last days after the anti-christ is thrown into the lake of fire alive and Satan is defeated in the last battle of Gog and Magog, All those who are remaining upon the earth will be required to worship God. Those that doubt will be shown the lake of fire with its inhabitants, moaning in torment. ars Temple of Spirit & Truth Ministrieshttp://www.ourchurch.com/member/a/arsmithsermons/ Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Anthony_Smith http://EzineArticles.com/?Understanding-the-Anti-Christ&id=120427 phentermine on line prescription phentermine online perscription buy phentermine online without prescription buy cheap phentermine

Silver Screen Suggestions for Love and Marriage

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Leslie Halpern In matters of the heart, you can always look to the magic of motion pictures for romantic inspiration for your first date, Valentines Day, a wedding anniversary, or anything in between. Many of the elements surrounding love and marriage are out of your control fighting in-laws, nervous groomsmen, malfunctioning equipment but its completely within your power to add silver screen romance to your courtship, wedding, honeymoon, and marriage. Date movies are wonderful sources of inspiration for all kinds of ideas about love and marriage. Want suggestions of what to look for in a mate? Need advice on creating the perfect romantic setting for the wedding? Searching for an exotic location for your honeymoon? Screenwriters have already done the work for you, providing clever ideas of what to do (and what not to do) for every conceivable romantic scenario. What to Do: Learn the favorite foods, books, flowers, and other preferences of your romantic partner (Youve Got Mail). Keep a journal that traces the development of your relationship with drawings, poems, and memorabilia (50 First Dates). Find someone who you can picture growing old with (The Wedding Singer). Put your love in writing and be sure to sign the note (Roxanne). Strive for the whole romantic fairy tale package once you find your Prince Charming or Cinderella (Pretty Woman). Be willing to relocate (anywhere within reason) in order to make the marriage work (Splash). Plan a beautiful outdoor wedding if the season and locale permit (George of the Jungle). Always wake your mate with a kiss rather than an alarm clock (Sleeping Beauty and Snow White). What Not to Do: Dont ever even for a minute ignore your lovers inner beauty (Shrek). Dont marry a wart-hog faced buffoon just because hes rich and powerful when you really love a poor and perfect farm boy (The Princess Bride). Dont buy the wedding dress, rings, cake, or anything else until youre absolutely certain that youre doing the right thing (Runaway Bride). Dont plan a quickie wedding at the Justice of the Peace if you really crave an elaborate affair (The Wedding Planner). Dont ask the brides former fiance to conduct the marriage ceremony (Meet the Fockers). Dont let your guard down if your grooms (or brides) best friend is a member of the opposite sex (My Best Friends Wedding). Dont leave your new spouse alone on the honeymoon with a good looking scuba instructor, tennis pro, or fitness trainer (Along Came Polly). Dont spend a fortune on your honeymoon if you never plan on leaving the hotel room (National Lampoons European Vacation). So sit back, relax, and pop a date movie into the DVD player (preferably with your mate close by for snuggling) and get ready to be inspired by these silver screen suggestions. College: How To Choose Your Major

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Gisela Harris Your college or university major may seem like the most important decision of your life. And it certainly is important. it can help you choose a career path that will stick with you for a long time. Whether or not you feel equipped to make this important decision or not, a few guidelines can help you along the way. As a word of warning, don’t make this decision lightly. This isn’t just choosing the course load that you will be taking over the next few years but could potentially place you on a career path that will last the rest of your life. Take some time to consider the implications well. After all you probably don’t want to study to be a lawyer if you’re afraid to talk in front of people. At the very least, you may have to get over your stage fright in order to be effective. Aptitude Tests Can Point You In The Right Direction Aptitude tests are designed to reveal things about you, your likes and dislikes, and potential career paths that may be suited to you personally. Aptitude tests are usually available from your career counselor or you can find some online. Ask your career or guidance counselor if they have any recommendations for you. Study Your Course Schedule Your college or university probably has literature available about the different fields of study available. But your course schedule can reveal a lot about the types of classes that you will have to take along the way. Certainly take some time to talk to some of the professors that teach in your field of study. And don’t hesitate to talk to other students about that field of study. Make sure that you understand the courses and requirements that you may encounter along the way. Don’t worry if it seems that a course of study might be difficult. Difficulties are to be expected in any path that is worthwhile. With these obstacles make sure to ask the professors about those trouble spots. Understanding why they are included can give you the strength to persevere. Check Online For Resources About Your Chosen Field of Study With the internet available, you have a multitude of resources available to you. Spend some time checking relevant industry blogs and discussion forums. These tools can help shed some light on an industry or field of study. Don’t forget to check growth patterns for your chosen industry. You want a good understanding if there will be jobs available to you by the time you graduate. Professional associates can help you draw back the veil a bit on your industry. They usually have job availability projections available. Weight Loss Pill - Is There Really Any Need?

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By David McEvoy For those of you who have tried, unsuccessfully, to lose weight, and believe that diet pills might be the perfect solution, consider this! If there were such a thing as a magic pill to do it all for you, why are there so many people who are still carrying excess weight and struggling to lose it? The answer to losing weight is startlingly simple. Weight can only be lost by decreasing your intake of calories whilst ideally, at the same time, increasing the number of calories you burn off. You have to eat less than your body uses up in energy, over a period of time. Diet pills are designed to artificially induce this very scenario in one or more of several different ways. However, a word of caution, not only can they cause some very unpleasant side effects, and can in some cases pose a serious threat to your health, there is little or no evidence to suggest that they produce any lasting results whatsoever. Most people who do experience some weight loss whilst taking diet pills, simply put it all straight back on again afterwards, as can be borne out by the number of people who have tried them and yet who are still overweight. The following are a few of the more common diet pills available, either over the counter or on prescription, and a brief description of what they are trying to do. Adipex, Bontril, Ionamin or Phentermine, all work by suppressing your appetite so that your brain tricks your body into thinking that it is full. This makes you eat less so reduces the number of calories you consume. Didrex (benzphetamine hydrochloride) stimulates your nervous system so that you burn more calories; it also suppresses your appetite. Phendimetrazine and Tenuate work in a similar way to amphetamines (speed) so basically they boost your metabolism to help to increase the amount of calories you burn up whilst at the same time, decreasing your appetite. Reductil or Sibutramine work by limiting the reuptake of seratonin and noradrenaline in the brain. This will have the effect of making you feel good so you are less likely to comfort eat, and makes you feel full earlier than you normally would. Xenical doesn’t suppress your appetite or help you burn more calories; it works by inhibiting the absorption of fats so that fewer calories find their way into your body. So, there are three main ways in which diet pills bring about a negative calorie intake. 1. They suppress your appetite so that you consume less calories. 2. They boost your metabolism to help you to burn more calories.3. They prevent the absorption of fats (and also nutrients too) so that fewer calories are retained by the body. What about the side effects? First, you have to be able to cope with the pressure that the pills put on your body so if you already have high blood pressure or heart problems for example, then diet pills can be exceptionally risky as they can increase your blood pressure and your heart rate. Other side effects that can be produced by diet pills include, but are not restricted to, risk of addiction, dry mouth, nausea, digestive problems (constipation and/or diarrhoea), headache, dizziness, insomnia, drowsiness, nervousness, blurred vision, confusion, agitation, breathlessness, excessive flatulence, stomach cramps and vomiting. They can also interact with some other medications you might be taking to either increase or counteract their effectiveness. When you consider the associated health risks of diet pills and that they are simply trying to mimic artificially what you are perfectly capable of doing quite naturally yourself, then you must surely wonder if there is any need for them at all. If you want to lose weight, then wouldn’t it make more sense to go for the safer and healthier option of eating a good diet and reducing the number of calories you consume? To speed up the process you can combine this with an increase in your activity level by adopting a simple exercise programme, even walking for 30 minutes a day will make a difference. The weight will come off over time and you will feel healthier and more alive, have more energy, and what’s more, there are no risks whatsoever. Stuttering Treatment, Stammering Treatment

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Steve Hill There are many different treatments for people who stutter/stammer. In this article I will describe some of the experiences and types of stuttering or stammering therapy people experiment with. One of the first places people go to when seeking help for a speech impediment is speech therapy. I myself started attending speech therapy at the age of five and I continued at different times to attend until the age of eighteen. Now I am sure some people have some very positive experiences and results from this type of therapy, however I was not one of these people. From what I remember the main advice I was given was to slow down my speech and to take a deep breath before starting to speak. When I observed fluent people speaking, I rarely heard them take a deep breath. Another area people try is hynotherapy. This was something I really wanted to try for myself at the age of around nineteen. Unfortunately each session cost nearly as much as my weekly wage at that point of my life. I never managed to experience this form of stammering therapy. I now believe that stuttering is a physcological as well as a physical problem. As hynotherapy only really deals with the physcological issues I am now not sure if it could have offered me the complete answer. The other treatments people who have a stutter try are speech courses. These courses are either on a group basis or on a one to one basis. With each of these courses, the person who attends the course is required to practice the techniques to make them a natural part of their speech. Confidence courses are another form of treatment for stuttering. In my opinion these are of value, however do not cover the physical aspects of how to eradicate a stutter. Stephen Hill has overcome a stutter which had affected his life for eighteen years. He now runs one to one speech courses. 5 Ways To Keep Your Relationship Happy

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

By Alex Daniels Research has shown that laughter is beneficial in many ways, including its ability to lower stress, depression, anxiety and even blood pressure. In addition, laughing increases oxygen in the blood, which promotes healing, and is also thought to help protect the heart. When you think about all of the benefits, there is simply no good reason not to laugh. If you still need more encouragement, its important to note that laughter can help to strengthen a relationship by promoting good times and providing unity during hardships. A recent study concluded that the average adult laughs only 17 times during a day, whereas a child will laugh several hundred times during the same timeframe. While it may not be entirely possible to recapture your childhood, laughter will help you to feel young again and will keep your relationship youthful and full of fun. If you need a few ideas, take note of the following ways to spark laughter in your relationship. Smart socializing. Although you may be in a relationship, its important to maintain friendships with others as a couple. When choosing your friends, make sure that they are humorous and enjoy having a good time. If possible, schedule a gathering with some of your funniest friends and laugh the night away. Schedule a laugh break. Every day, spend time with your significant other in a way that invites humor. Whether it be watching a favorite sitcom on television, reading a book or visiting a comedy club, take this time to laugh with each other on a daily basis. Laugh at yourself. Every good relationship must have laughter and the occasional harmless teasing, which will help both parties to maintain the ability to laugh at themselves. If you lose that ability and begin to take everything too seriously, you may end up losing your sense of humor. Being able to laugh at yourself if you say something silly or do something embarrassing is a sign of confidence and will make others want to be near you, including your mate. Observe life. Whether you get a pet, which can bring a great deal of laughter and enjoyment, or choose to notice the humorous events that occur to those around you on a daily basis, taking the time to watch and enjoy life will allow couples to laugh together and share in the funny moments that happen to occur along the way. Be silly. Dont be afraid to have a silly session with your mate. Whether its making a series of funny faces, harmless teasing or a good ticklefest, its important that you keep your significant other laughing right along with you. Medically, laughter is believed to promote a healthier heart. Personally, it may lead to a happier one.
